Editor's Note: Agriculture is the foundation of a nation, and a stable foundation ensures national prosperity. Issues concerning agriculture, rural areas, and farmers are fundamental to China’s livelihood and development, and the country has always placed great emphasis on them. Known as the "Land of Fish and Rice" since ancient times, Hunan in the new era is advancing rural revitalization with solid measures, striving toward a future where agriculture is stronger, villages are more beautiful, and farmers are wealthier. International Online Hunan Channel presents the series ["Discovering Rural Hunan, Sharing Hunan with the World"], showcasing the vibrant progress of Hunan’s agricultural, rural, and farmer-focused initiatives to tell the world Hunan’s "Three Rural" stories.

International Online Hunan Report (By Zhou Yuqing): Stepping into Hunan Sunfield Agricultural Machinery Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as "Sunfield Machinery"), the workshop echoes with the rhythmic sounds of welding, and workers assemble machines with precision. Rows of fully assembled rice milling machines stand ready, awaiting packaging before being shipped worldwide.

"We aim to create agricultural machinery that farmers can trust and sell it worldwide," said Wang Luhua, the company’s founder, resolutely describing his original vision.

Data shows that Hunan’s agricultural machinery manufacturing industry accounts for 1/10 of China’s total output value, with over 460 agricultural machinery enterprises—152 of them large-scale—operating in the province. In 2023, Hunan’s agricultural machinery sector generated 29 billion yuan in revenue, with exports reaching 458 million yuan, cementing its status as a leader in China’s agricultural machinery industry.

From Resignation to Global Agricultural Machinery Sales

Wang Luhua hails from Shuangfeng County, Loudi City, Hunan Province—renowned as the "Hometown of Rice Milling Machines" and a hub for agricultural machinery. His uncle, a technical director at a local machinery company, sparked Wang’s early fascination with the field. After studying mechanical engineering in college, Wang joined Zoomlion Heavy Industry after graduation.

Yet, ambition stirred within him. In 2010, invited by a leading agricultural machinery enterprise in Shuangfeng, Wang co-founded a new company in Changsha as its technical director. In 2014, he established his first foreign trade firm, specializing in overseas agricultural machinery sales.

However, acting as a middleman between Hunan manufacturers and international buyers proved challenging. "Manufacturers raised prices for export markets, while overseas clients complained about inconsistent quality. Deals often fell through," Wang recalled.

Misaligned product standards further complicated matters. "When foreign clients requested modifications, domestic manufacturers resisted, thinking I was being unreasonable," he said. During a business trip to Africa, Wang noticed that most Chinese machinery there came from Shandong and Jiangsu—not Hunan. This realization fueled his determination to build his own factory. In 2017, Sunfield Machinery was born.

Building a Factory: Crafting Unique Products

Leveraging years of export experience, Wang focused on combined rice milling machines tailored to African markets. "In Africa, many farming tasks rely on manual labor—except for rice milling, which requires machinery," he explained.

Initially, the company sourced parts for quick assembly. While this boosted output, sales remained fragmented. "Orders trickled in from scattered small farmers. To grow, we needed stable, large clients," Wang realized.

A turning point came in 2020 when Changsha Area of Hunan Pilot Free Trade Zone was established, integrating Sunfield’s base in Changsha Economic Development Zone. Policy innovations in trade and services bolstered Wang’s confidence. That year, Sunfield won a 20-container order from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with each container holding eight sets of combined rice milling machines.

    Transformation into a Manufacturing Powerhouse

As the company grew, Wang understood that true manufacturing prowess required in-house R&D. "I recruited engineers and led the design of our flagship model. Within two months, we finalized blueprints and sourced parts nationwide," he shared.

Wang immersed himself in the workshop, overseeing every detail from welding to assembly. "Minor flaws can cripple entire machines. Quality and safety are non-negotiable," he emphasized.

Years of stringent quality control expanded Sunfield’s reach from Africa to Southeast Asia, Latin America, and beyond. The product line
From combined rice milling machines to complete rice milling production lines, and supporting single-unit equipment such as cleaning sieves, de-stoners, rice huskers, and paddy separators, the product line has been continuously refined, now offering a complete range of solutions.

"Our current focus is on complete rice processing systems with a daily capacity of 15 to 100 tons, catering to diverse production scales. In several African countries, our English brand SUNFIELD has become a household name. We’ve also obtained ISO9001 certification, and our uncompromising quality has earned widespread acclaim from clients worldwide," Wang Luhua explained.

At this year’s China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), Wang showcased the newly upgraded Model 15 Combined Rice Milling Machine. "We secured collaboration agreements with multiple domestic and international clients on-site, further solidifying our position in the global market," he said.

Looking ahead, Wang plans to actively participate in international exhibitions and expand deeper into African markets. Currently, in rice processing plants across Africa, Sunfield-branded rice milling machines operate at full efficiency, producing pristine white grains that inject new vitality into local agricultural production.

As Hunan Sunfield Agricultural Machinery continues to grow, Wang envisions an even broader future. He aims to increase R&D investment to enhance product intelligence and eco-friendly performance, developing diversified machinery tailored to agricultural needs in different countries. Simultaneously, the company will explore new markets and build a global sales network, striving to elevate "Hunan-crafted" agricultural machinery into an internationally renowned Chinese brand.
